Washington, D.C. - March 18th, 2019 - As part of the mission to foster a greater global understanding about the importance of the pediatric and caregiver voice in healthcare, clinical trials and research, iCAN has joined with Hope for Henry, an organization dedicated to improving the pediatric patient experience at hospitals. With a unique and caring community base, Hope for Henry is reinventing how hospitals care for seriously ill children and their families through innovative programs that entertain, reduce stress, and empower children to be active participants in their own care. As a natural fit for iCAN, Hope for Henry, along with their engaged board, enthusiastic investors, committed hospital partners and empowered child life team, has begun the process of bringing together pediatric patients to form a newly-created "Hope for Henry PAC/KIDS DC Chapter". The chapter will include young people which are committed commitment to the to providing opportunities to share their expert voices to further improve healthcare throughout all facets of pediatric research, innovation, science, technology and advocacy within iCAN. Visit their new website at https://www.icanresearch.org/hope-for-henry-pac-kids-dc to learn more. iCAN is proud to share the Hope for Henry core value of supporting young patients and their families.
Since 2003, Hope for Henry’s comprehensive, year-round program has served more than 45,000 kids at hospitals in Washington, DC, Baltimore, and beyond.
From Hope for Henry, "Doctors, nurses, child life specialists, and psychosocial team members consistently report that Hope for Henry is successfully making a positive difference in their young patients’ lives. They tell us that patients smile more, are happier, and their overall spirit and attitude toward treatment improves because of our work. Research has shown that the reduction in anxiety, fear and pain can lead to improved patient outcomes, particularly for pediatric patients who can suffer psychosocial problems long after the termination of treatment."
Every week, kids tell us just what a positive impact Hope for Henry has in their lives. After a recent birthday party, a six year-old patient exclaimed, “This was the best day ever!”
In collaboration with iCAN, our young people, their families and the global community of providers, researchers, and medical healthcare professionals, can help to create a world that continues to provide the best health and wealthness that a child needs and deserves.
