iCAN Research welcomes Amy Ohmer to her new role as the Director of iCAN Research.
Welcome to your blog post. Use this space to connect with your readers and potential customers in a way that’s current and interesting. Think of it as an ongoing conversation where you can share updates about business, trends, news, and more.
Joining iCAN through the Parent Council in 2014, and as a Director, in 2018, Amy brings to iCAN both a passion of fostering pediatric healthcare improvements along with a personal expertise of families living with chronic care needs. As a mother of two children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at a young age, Amy focuses on involving the patient as the expert throughout the global medical community.
Ohmer believes that there is no patient too small or too young to share big ideas. Those ideas are the ones that often create the greatest impact.
Besides her leadership role through iCAN, Amy is the Co-Chair of the T1D Exchange Patient/Parent Advisory Board, the Parent Lead for Michigan Medicine, Pediatric Endocrinology Advisory Board, Member of the American Board of Pediatrics Patient/Parent Advisory Council, Member of the Patient Family Advisory Council, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Advocate for the American Diabetes Association and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Amy holds a seat as a Public Member of the ABMS Stakeholder Council. Most recently, Amy was selected to receive the 2018 Sally Joy Leadership Award by Diabetes Partners in Action (DPAC) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
While Amy is passionate about Michigan Medicine, Amy is also an alum of Michigan State University, holding a B.A. in Communications, Arts and Science, with an emphasis in writing. In 2009, Amy founded the nationally recognized website, Naturally Sweet Sisters, to offer support to families beginning the journey of living with chronic health needs. She has co-authored multiple articles for the T1D Exchange, American Academy of Pediatrics and Lilly Diabetes. At home, you can find Amy with her husband, Todd, cheering on their two teenaged daughters both on and off the golf course. She will always cheer both 'Go Green' and 'Go Blue' for the love of both universities!
